Jackie F. Newman, MA, LPCC, CCTS-S has been a private practitioner for 6 years now. Jackie has over 10 years of training for her career as a therapist. She received her BS in Psychology from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 2004 and her Master's in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College Graduate School in 2011.
During her internship in graduate school, Jackie was trained in and practiced Solution Focused Therapy in a community counseling center. Upon graduating from Wheaton, Jackie & her family moved back to Kentucky where she became a Case Manager and Therapist for Impact Plus with Sunrise Children's Services.
Upon moving to Bowling Green, Jackie began her private practice at the Ohio County Christian Counseling Center along with a position as a Phase I Therapist for The Bridge to Recovery - a residential program for those struggling with addictions, trauma, and codependency. At The Bridge, Jackie lead psychoeducation lectures, group therapy, experiential work, self-discovery and grief workshops, and aided in Equine Assisted Therapy. She is a Level I Restoration Therapist and has studied under theorist, Dr. Terry Hargrave at Fuller University in Pasadena. Jackie specializes in working with trauma, addictions, codependancy, grief work, family of origin issues, anxiety and depression, anger, shame, spirituality, and marriage restoration. In 2017 Jackie began working with survivors of Human Trafficking and in 2018 went through training and became a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist in Sex Trafficking and Sex Exploitation through the Arizona Trauma Institute. Jackie is now a strong advocate for survivors of human trafficking and those who still find themselves in the life. Jackie, though Rogerian at heart, works from a number of therapeutic modalities and theoretical orientations. Jackie will often use Restoration Therapy, Shame & Anger Reduction, Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Art & Music Therapy along with a number of different experiential techniques in her counseling sessions. Most importantly, Jackie believes that 90% of the effectiveness of therapy is in trust and safety in the therapeutic relationship.
Jackie has an extensive background in ministry; working right after college as a youth & children's minister with individuals and families followed by two years cross-cultural experience as a missionary in Poland with her husband. Jackie does not exclusively advertise as a "Christian Counselor" though she views life through the lens of a believer in Christ - who she believes ultimately can heal all wounds. Even though this is her personal belief system, Jackie absolutely loves meeting with clients who come from all religious (or non-religious) backgrounds, different cultures, and ethnicities and does not discriminate against clients.
In her spare time, Jackie enjoys being with her husband and four young boys, being an active member of her church, singing, travelling, doing PTO Presidential duties, cooking, working out, sipping a chai tea latte, and training to one day hopefully be on Survivor - as she and her family are avid superfans of the show!
PLEASE NOTE: Though Jackie does not advertise as a Christian Counselor and is her own LLC, her office is in a shared space with Christian Counselors. There is some Christian-themed decor around the shared office space and the radio is often playing Christian music. Once you are in the office with Jackie, it is completely up to you whether or not you chose to incorporate religion, spirituality, or Christianity in your therapy.
